I was going to research, but thought it might be easier more educational and fun for everyone to pose the question here.

Who made the decision to move the primary up in Florida? Officials? Random people?

Was it put to a public vote?

Because if not, aren't the democratic voters of Florida clearly being disenfranchised? Even if the public voted on it, I can think of numerous ways in which people could take issue with this... I don't get how this is legal.

Go ahead, enlighten me... it'll be fun : )
I may even order a pizza.

Thank you darlin' you're so good to me :)

(I wrote a summary for everyone... you're not obligated to read it if you don't want to.)

Summary:

-Florida has 4th largest # delegates
-They wanted to have more power to choose a candidate
-They decided to move primary up.
-DNC said, nooooo. If you do, we'll take away ALL of your delegates.
-Republicans said if you do, the republicans will lose 1/2 of their delegates.
-Florida is predominantly republican.
-Yes, this date change had to be voted on in the state legislature. Being republican controlled and being that they'd only lose 1/2 of their delegates, they decided to do it anyway. (Important to note, no one believed the other side would do what they said)
-Democrats couldn't have stopped this from happening because they didn't have control of state, yet the DNC said if they do it say bye to ALL democratic delegates.
-So, Democrats lost all delegates *shrugs*

-Yes, people are suing, yes there is a gigantic hulabaloo, yes it's unAmerican to be denied the right to vote (or in this case, not have your vote count)

My thoughts: ... I think they're looking towards the future and were willing to pay the price in the present... trying to shake up the way primaries are held, which I agree with. Why should New Hampshire and those other early states get to do so every year? Shouldn't it be revolving? I know during Iowa, I actually wanted to move there :p I definitely felt they had much more influence over this election than me or my state? The foundation seems really skewed to me. So, perhaps things will change in some way some day. Who knows.

Thanks again, Red *squeezes you* Thanks to you, I am enlightened!
